See How We Got Here
June 26, 1886
Founded
- At an organization meeting on E. Federal St. in Youngstown, Ohio, the Swedish Mission Church’s name and constitution were adopted
January 1, 1887
First Building
- Reverend Frank Nelson served for 3 months and assisted in building the first church, located on Poland Ave. It sat 200 at a cost of $2,750
April 4, 1887
Pastor Appointed
- A. W. Franklin became Pastor at a salary of $35/mo and parsonage that rented for $10 /mo
August 1898
Second Building
- A new church on Market and Woodland Ave, that sat 300 at a cost of $2,700 was dedicated
December 1913
Third Building
- The church outgrew it’s facility and built a larger church on the same land, at a cost of $25,000 and was dedicated
January 1, 1938
Name Change
- The name of the church was changed from Swedish Mission Church to First Covenant Church
August 17,1952
Current Building
- The Market Street Church was sold and the corner stone for the current Church’s location at 5210 Glenwood Ave was laid
1986
100th Anniversary
- In 1986 First Covenant Church of Youngstown celebrated its 100th Anniversary
2020
New Members
- Faith Community Covenant Church was sold and their members became members of First Covenant Church
April 2021
New Leadership
- Pastor Kendall Churchill was installed to lead the Church into a new period of growth and service to our community and the various missions of the Church
